1. Introduction

After its inception in 1995, the New Control Computer System rapidly became a single programmer project. As the NCCS matures beyond its initial Phase 1 concept, more and more programmers are likely to be involved in its design and construction, This Developer's Guide is intended as an introduction to the programming environment and methodology that has evolved from and during Phase 1 of the project. It is not intended to be an idiot's guide but rather attempts to introduce the NCCS and its development environment to a more mature programming audience.

The original NCCS Code Development Environment specification put forward by A. Goetz serves as the origin of much that is detailed here, and all NCCS developers should consider that essential reading before continuing further, though some specific details may be obsolete.
